The start of the 2023 academic year saw just over 28 new entrants start school for the very first time. These students were welcomed into Rooms 3, 4 and 9. We also welcomed back our current Year 1 and 2 students who were excited to be back at school and meet their new teachers.
We have started the year with eight Year 1 classes and 6 Year 2 classes. These classes are divided into three Junior teams and led by three experienced Team Leaders: Miss Tracey Haugh (Team 1A), Mrs Michelle Geddes (Team 1B) and Mr Alex Cornea (Team 2).
It has been really pleasing to see all our learners focused on their learning and settled and happy in their new classes. I have really enjoyed talking to our students during breaktimes and during my classroom visits. Each Junior class is focusing on making new friends, learning new routines and expectations and getting to know their classmates during these initial weeks.
We have an exciting term planned for Term 1. Our Junior Isteam day will be on Mondays and the students will all be attending weekly sessions of swimming, science, library, sport and Te Reo Maori. Please keep an eye out for our Term 1 edition of the Junior School Journal which contains more information about what is coming up in the Junior School this term.
We look forward to working with all our junior students and their whanau this year on their learning journey. We wish all our Owairoa children and their families a wonderful 2023.
