Term 1 has started at Owairoa Primary School. The students are settling into new routines with their teachers and classmates and continuing with their learning journey for 2020.
In the International Department we are hosting a group of parents and students from several different countries as they have an introductory taste of New Zealand life and experience education in a school setting.
We run a Parent Class every day from 9:00am until 10:30am for the International parents. This class provides the parents with both support and information on the school, our education system, the local area, Auckland and New Zealand as a whole.
The purpose of the class is to:
- learn / practice English around relevant topics
- support understanding of school related activities
- provide a support network group for parents
Once a week we have a cooking class where easy kiwi style dishes are introduced to the parents. They prepare and cook the food in class and then enjoy tasting what they make. This is also another opportunity to learn English.
