The Junior Journey Begins

By February 11, 2025No Comments

The start of the 2025 academic year saw just over 28 new entrants start school for their very first time. These students went into Rooms 1, 4 and 6. We also welcomed back our current Year 1 and 2 students who were excited to be back at school and meet their new teachers and catch up with their friends and classmates.

We have started the year with 6 Year 1 classes and 5 Year 2 classes. These classes are divided into three Junior teams and led by three experienced Team Leaders: Miss Tracey Haugh (Team 1A), Ms Michelle Geddes (Team 1B) and Mr Alex Cornea (Team 2).

This year has started well, with students settling into their new classes and focusing on their learning. An emphasis is on making friends, relating positive with others, learning new routines and expectations, and creating warm, safe learning environment initially taking priority in programmes in all classrooms

We have an exciting term planned for Term 1. Our Junior ISTEAM day will be on Fridays and the students will all be attending weekly sessions of swimming, science, library and sport. Throughout the year they will also get an opportunity to attend Music with our Music Specialist and work in the Digital Dream Lab with our Digital Technology Specialist. Please keep an eye out for our Term 1 edition of the Junior School Journal which contains more information about what is coming up in the Junior School this term.

We look forward to working with all our junior students (and their whanau) on their learning journey. We wish all our Owairoa children and their families a wonderful 2025.
