On Wednesday 22 May 2024, Owairoa Primary School were privileged to be a part of 21,969 locations across Australia and New Zealand reading Bowerbird Blues written by Aura Parker at the same time.
Bowerbird Blues is a book about a Bowerbird that is on a mission to collect blue items for his nest. He collects things like bottle caps, forks, straws, and beads. He collects numerous treasures for his nest, but he still feels as though something is missing. He continues his search and then he finds a female Bowerbird and finally the missing piece in his heart is filled.
The learners in Room 3 loved watching the live stream of the reading by the author and we then created some artwork based on the Bowerbird nest. The learners wrote a story about what colour they would collect if they were a Bowerbird. Some learners chose red, pink and green.
There were 2,359,147 learners across Australia and New Zealand that were a part of this annual story time that is sponsored by Scholastic. Owairoa Primary School looks forward next year’s National Simultaneous Story Time.
