Once again the Year 5 and 6 students have had the amazing opportunity to participate in the ‘Have A Go Sailing’ initiative provided by the Bucklands Beach Yacht Club.
This year, thanks to Yachting New Zealand, students were also provided with the Kokokaha programme. This ISTEM based programme allowed students to head to the clubrooms and have a more detailed look into the science behind buoyancy, pulleys and knot tying.
After learning the basics, our students were able to get out in their own Optimist sailing boats and put their learning into practice. Our Year 6 students built on last years’ experience, which was obvious to see in their confidence and sailing skill. All of our students have been buzzing about the experience and knowledge they have gained.
