After discussions and reflections, the International Students identified an area of their English learning that they felt they needed to focus on for Semester 1, then wrote and published a goal.
Interestingly they all either talked about learning more vocabulary and spelling words correctly or expressed the desire to write longer sentences and / or interesting stories.
In each session in English Class, the students write, enabling them to practice the skills needed to convey their thoughts. The small class sizes ensure each student gets individual help and support at their level, which in turn gives them the confidence to try new ideas and skills.
The content of the writing relates back to classroom themes so that support can be given with new vocabulary and ideas. Charts of technical and descriptive words are being co-created by the groups to refer back to and use in their writing.
