Every year in the spring there is a shift in the atmosphere amongst the year 5/6 classes. Year 5 students listen and learn about a privilege they can look forward to. They hear their classmates, the year 6 students, starting to ask, “When will we get to wear our graduation shirts?”
After the order forms go out, which are usually returned the day after getting them, students wait for the fitting and delivery of the shirts. Once the call is heard to come and collect, uncontainable smiles erupt and these are followed by attempts to walk, rather than run, to the office! Within a day everyone knows who is year 5 and who is year 6. Students arrive feeling distinctively changed and noticing how different their friends look sporting this new piece of clothing.
Cool and comfy, these shirts are fantastic to wear in the last weeks of primary school. They hold all the names of these maturing students and year sixes wear them with pride. Celebrations, mufti days, socials, prize giving and last moments are all in the waiting. Anticipation of graduation is in the air; it is palpable.
