If you would like to learn about the importance of renewable energy sources such as Solar Energy, Wind Energy and Hydro Power, students in Year 3 will be able to tell you all about it – their Science focus this term has been learning about electricity.
Safety around electricity has been discussed, both relating to outside power lines and junction boxes, but also with regards to the safe use of sockets, power boards and even the correct use of toasters in the house.
In the Science Room students have been exploring how batteries and circuits work. This involved trying to figure out why certain circuits were failing to work. They discovered this was due to a number of different reasons such as: empty batteries, not enough battery power, wrongly connected crocodile clips or even open switches.
Students experienced a great sense of achievement when a solution to the problem was found. Perhaps Owairoa’s Year 3s will be our local Electricians of the future!
