It has been a great start to the 2023 year in the Junior School! We have been planting up a storm while exploring the topic of the living world, solving problems about plants, reducing food waste, and learning how to be Owairoa Superkids. There is great excitement watching to see our plants grow as tall as our castles for our Mrs Rice and the Beanstalk competition.
In Week 7 we were lucky enough to go on a school trip to explore the Auckland Botanic Gardens. We spent time with the educators looking at what plants need to grow and even got to see worms up close. Every child planted their own flower seed to bring home, along with planting a seedling which will eventually be moved to the Gardens flower beds. We also got the opportunity to dig in the vegetable garden and sweep the paths.
Along with our wonderful parent helpers, the children explored the Potters Childrens Garden and the Edible Garden. It was a fabulous opportunity for our learners with many exclaiming it was “the best day ever”! A great day was had by all and the bus ride home was a quiet one.
