Middle School students have been learning about ANZAC Day. They explored the way we as New Zealanders remember the brave soldiers who fought in World War One. Students learned about how ANZAC is commemorated in each part of New Zealand and discussed the ceremony that is held at Stockade Hill on ANZAC Day each year.
Classes also investigated the meaning of ANZAC through Art, Reading, and Poetry. Some students looked at the role of animals such as horses and dogs in daily life during World War One. They discovered that some were mascots, and others carried out essential jobs to save lives.
Room M2 completed some beautiful artwork to complete their inquiry into ANZAC Day. Taking care to sketch a poppy they used shading and perspective to add detail to their masterpieces. Their wonderful wall of learning and a sample of their sketches can be seen below.
