Moulding, shaping, and creating. G2 students have been busy crafting a unique pair of jandals using clay!
This term for isteam, the Junior School has focused on the Arts. So, for visual art G2 researched some New Zealand artists to incorporate elements of New Zealand’s unique cultural and natural identity into a clay-based creation. The base of the creation was a jandal to match a ‘kiwiana’ art style which is an art form that describes New Zealand symbols, items, and icons. As we know jandals are popular in New Zealand due to the casual laid back lifestyle we have, as well as the climate in the summer months.
To celebrate our connection to the outdoors and New Zealand’s beautiful landscapes, some students carefully decorated their jandals by painting colours of mountains, lakes, beaches, and forests onto them.
G2 students enjoyed experimenting with clay, some even used it for the first time! Students are proud of their creations, they just wish that they could wear them! But instead, G2 plan on gifting their jandals to whanau or friends at Christmas time to show them their love and appreciation.
