Ahoy me hearties! The storms blew and the pages turned, the pirates sailed into Owairoa to learn.
Just like a pirate, the Junior School pirates got up to many different adventures while sailing the pages of books and pirate-themed stories this week. With Captain Rice Bubbles taking over Mrs Rice’s office (Mrs Rice please come back!), the Junior pirates enjoyed listening to a story about Captain Beastie who doesn’t like taking a bath! Being the smelliest pirate that he was, his crew decided to give him a bath ready for his birthday, however, some of his pirate clothes floated away in the bath bubbles all the way to Owairoa. The Junior School pirates enjoyed having to go on a treasure hunt to find his clothes that were stuck in the bubbles.
With a parade of pirates streaming through the seas of Owairoa, it was a fantastic afternoon of arghhs, laughs, and an occasional “WALK THE PLANK!” for those rather unfortunate pirates with a questionable sense of humour.
While on their way looking for treasure, the Junior School pirates had the pleasure of meeting author Sally Sutton and listening to her read a few of her books. It was a fun and engaging experience for all.
A huge thank you to Scholastic, our pirates’ parents and the community for making the Owairoa Pirate Book Week possible, while bringing the joy and excitement of reading to life.
One last thing to remember … “Captain’s Coming!”
