The All Blacks may not be firing on all cylinders recently, but that certainly wasn’t the case when the Owairoa Girls’ Football team visited William Green Domain for their 2-day tournament in Week 5 and 6.
Despite only having a handful of training sessions under their belts, the Year 5 and 6 girls made the tournament look like a walk in the park. A tough first game was met by the experimental starting nine, as they tackled a tough Cockle Bay team first up. The Owairoa girls gave it their all and walked away with a 5-0 win.
With a better idea of players preferred positions, the girls started strong against Baverstock from the first whistle and won again in another 5-0 win. A tough loss against Point View left the girls a little disheartened, but they were back firing on all cylinders to win their final game against Beachlands 1-0.
With 3 wins and 1 loss after the first day, the girls were excited to go back the following week and show everyone what they were made of. After a day of challenging games, Owairoa finished the tournament top of Pool B, and 6th overall. Well done girls!
