The Owairoa Primary School Board of Trustees is currently working with the Ministry of Education with the planning and construction of a new two storey 18 classroom block and associated landscape works, on the rear school boundary nearest to Elliot Street.
This $13 million redevelopment project will provide our school community with improved teaching spaces in alignment with current teaching practices and enhance connectivity across the campus for the school’s staff and students.
Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2020 with an anticipated completion date of February 2022.
We appreciate the inconvenience the construction works may cause some people and we thank you in advance for your understanding towards our need to provide high quality teaching spaces for our local student community.
The project involves the removal of a number of classes from the top part of the school in preparation for the new construction and the relocation of those students to the lower part of the school.
This relocation will take place over the next few weeks and will involve students in Rooms 30 ~ 39.
The Ministry of Education are currently installing six temporary Portacom type classrooms on the bottom field to accommodate the students from the upper part of the school. At the end of the construction period the twelve temporary classrooms on the bottom field will be removed.
We are currently making application to Auckland Council to be able to use the Howick Domain facilities as an extension to our playgrounds and to use for our physical Education programme.
