The fantastic and inquisitive junior learners from Owairoa have been engaging in our annual Maths Week!
The week is designed to boost the love for mathematics amongst students around the country. Each day the learners are given open mathematic problems to solve and work as a team to come up with an answer.
In the Junior School we have a daily challenge we need to solve. On Monday the challenge was “How many teachers can fit on the Giant’s Chair?” There were a large range of answers, but nobody really knew for sure. So, the students and the teachers went outside and gave it a crack. Teacher after teacher started volunteering to sit or stand on the chair. We manged to get a whopping 16 teachers piled up on the large wooden structure!
These types of challenges really manage to engage the students as it opens their eyes to the fact that Maths can be fun!
We look forward to what other tricky and exciting curly questions are yet to come!
