50th Golden Jubilee 2012

On Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd March we celebrated a special milestone in the history of Owairoa Primary School.  The 50th Golden Jubilee was a resounding success with many past and present staff, students and parents visiting the school and participating in the school tours, visiting the archive displays, watching the performances, planting  a tree, opening the time capsule, lighting the memory candle and cutting the Jubilee cake.

The cutting of the cake was performed by 94 year old Mrs Dorothy Copeland, a past Teacher of the school, and Mrs Jacqui Wills [nee Smith] who as a five year old student in 1987 cut the 25th Jubilee cake.
I wish to thank the Jubilee Planning Committee and especially thank the PTA and the many parents who supplied food for the afternoon tea.

Jubilee Celebration Feedback

We have received many positive comments about the Jubilee including:
“I think George Kenny [first Principal of Owairoa] could never have visualised how this school would go from strength to strength following the ground work that both he and Mrs Kenny put in. It makes me happy knowing that the school is in good hands and I look forward to watching the school continue to grow. “  Mr Murray McGehan
“I just wanted to say how much I appreciated all the organisation that had gone into the Jubilee.  It was fantastic to see all the old photos and other records of the school.” Phillipa Gedye
