The Owairoa Primary School Family

“Creating a safe and supportive environment for your child”

Enrolment

Owairoa Primary School welcomes enrolment enquiries and feel privileged to have the opportunity to assist you in this very important decision on student enrolment.

Prior to your child’s first day of school we extend an invitation to you to meet with our Principal who will introduce you to our fine educational facility, take you on a guided tour and will ensure any questions you may have are answered at this time.

Following this meeting you will receive a ‘Welcome to our School Pack’ including all the documentation required for pre-enrolment.

Personal Invitation

Our Principal, Alan McIntyre, extends a personal invitation to you, to enrol at our wonderful school.

To make an appointment, please phone the Principals Personal Assistant on (09) 538 0060 ext. 207

We look foward to welcoming you to our ‘Owairoa Family’.

In order to enrol your child, we will require the following documentation

  • Evidence of Age e.g. Birth Certificate or Passport
  • Immunisation Records e.g. Back of Well Child Book, Doctor Record
  • Evidence of Address e.g. Rental Agreement, Power Account, Rates Invoice
  • Student Status evidence (if applicable) e.g. Residency Certificate / Student Visa

Please return these documents along with the other required forms you will receive in your ‘Welcome to Our School’ Enrolment Pack.

Super Start - Transition to School Programme

All New Entrant students are welcome to attend our Super Start transition to school programme. These small group sessions support the New Entrant’s transition to Owairoa Primary School. Super Start is held Wednesday afternoons 1.30pm – 2.45pm.

Facilitated by Associate Principal, Kirsty Rice, these sessions provide an opportunity for your child to become familiar with school expectations, the environment, and to meet other New Entrants.

Classroom Visits

New Entrant students are invited to visit their classroom, prior to the actual starting day. This is most helpful giving new students the opportunity to meet the teacher and the class.  Two visits are recommended. The visiting times available are on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8.45am to 10.30am.

Please contact the school office for more information.

The Owairoa Primary School Board has implemented an enrolment scheme as directed by the Ministry of Education Under section 11H(1) of the Education Act 1989.

Proof of residence within the home zone will be required.

In Zone Enrolments
Each year, applications for enrolment in the following year from in-zone students will be sought by a date which will be published in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.  This will enable the Board to assess the number of places which can be made available to students who live outside the home zone.

Out of Zone Enrolments
Each year the Board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.  The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

  • First Priority: This priority category is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary.
  • Second Priority must be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.
  • Third Priority must be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.
  • Fourth Priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.
  • Fifth Priority must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.
  • Sixth priority must be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, or fifth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989.  Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.

Applicants seeking second or third priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling relationship
